Hi! My name is Lindsay Traver and I’ve been decorating cakes since 2004, though I’ve loved baking my entire life. Even as a little girl I always wanted to help my mom with her baking.
I entered college at Binghamton University where I completed one year in the Engineering program. I knew I could continue in this field, but it just wasn’t for me. I needed to get back to my passion for baking! Well, one day I saw a little beginner’s guide for cake decorating in the grocery store while waiting at the checkout. I bought it, took it home and started teaching
myself little techniques. From there it just took off. I had to make a cake for every occasion! I took the next year and a half off from college and worked at A Step Above catering in Elmira, NY. It was there that I learned so much of what I know. The owner at that time, Karen, taught me almost everything I know in the world of baking, pastry, and cake decorating. I decided to go back to college in 2005, this time to Alfred State, and earned my A.O.S. in Baking and Production Management. There I further honed my skills and learned many new techniques like chocolate and sugar work.
Cake decorating is hard work and exhausting hours but I absolutely love what I do. Growing up, I’ve always seen sweets as something that makes people happy and lifts their spirits. I love that I can provide people with that. My favorite part is seeing the reactions from people when they receive a special cake. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.
